This is the fifth-annual iteration of the USA Football All-Fundamentals Team, which honors and recognizes 26 NFL players (11 on both offense and defense and four specialists) who “exhibit exemplary techniques for youth players to emulate.” The selection committee consists of Charles Davis, Herm Edwards, Merril Hoge, Carl Peterson and Bill Polian. USA Football chose Dorenbos for the team because he “maintains consistency through a wide base, proper grip and strong follow-through, producing tight spirals on delivery to his targets.”
“Football never stands still, yet strong fundamentals are timeless,” said Peterson, USA Football’s chairman and longtime NFL executive who helped select the team. “Jon has demonstrated exemplary fundamentals throughout his career. We’re proud to recognize him as an All-Fundamentals Team captain.”
Joining Dorenbos as captains are Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams. Each player will receive an equipment grant valued at $3,000, to be donated to the youth or high school football program of their choice.
USA Football’s mission is to advance youth player participation and safety, particularly as it pertains to blocking and tackling. It has educated more than 100,000 youth football coaches in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
