Reports: Two Former 49er DL To Visit

Posted Mar 12, 2013

The Eagles have reportedly set up visits with former 49ers defensive linemen Isaac Sopoaga and Ricky Jean-Francois. NFL Network's Albert Breer was the first to report of Sopoaga's interest, while his teammate Ian Rapoport broke the news regarding Jean-Francois.

Breer tweeted Tuesday that Sopoaga, 31, is looking at two teams, but is leaning toward visiting and signing with the Eagles. The Sideline View's Adam Caplan confirmed that Sopoaga is scheduled to meet with the Eagles.

A fourth-round draft choice of the 49ers in 2004, Sopoaga has experience at defensive end and nose tackle in San Francisco’s 3-4 scheme. Last season, he played in 14 games, starting nine, and tallied 27 combined tackles and a sack.

The 26-year-old Jean-Francois is one whose best is likely yet to come. Jean-Francois was a seventh-round pick in 2009 and has since been a key role player for the 49ers. In total, he started three games last season, totaling 22 tackles and two sacks over 16 games. Jean-Francois can play defensive tackle in a 4-3, and many believe he could play defensive end or nose tackle in a 3-4 scheme.
