As the lists of all-star teams continue to come out, here's a salute to the best players in the NFC East courtest of Pro Football Focus - a website that analyzes every snap to produce a grade on each player. The All-NFC East Team was composed of the players who graded out the highest at each position while taking other things such as injury and playing time into consideration.
Seven Eagles made the list, but surprisingly enough one of the team's Pro Bowl selections did not make the Pro Football Focus All-NFC East Team. Here are the Eagles who are represented on this list.
LeSean McCoy, RB
Grade: 18.7 rushing, 1st in NFL
"There wasn’t a more consistent Eagles player this year than McCoy," wrote Pro Football Focus' John Breitenbach. "It became impossible to count how many times he turned plays that should have been losses into gains seemingly after a single game. Our top rated rusher forced 49 missed tackles in the ground game."
Jason Peters, OT
Grade: 27.6 overall, 1st in NFL by 12.9 points
"Peters finally ironed out the inconsistency of much of his career and became the league’s best tackle," Breitenbach wrote. "He allowed a single pressure or less in an astounding nine games (five of them perfect) and thrived in the run game using the athleticism he has, as a former TE."
Grade: 34.6 overall
"Mathis has always had the potential to dominate but injuries and strange personnel decisions prevented that in Cincinnati," Breitenbach wrote. "He’s the type of guard who does all the little things perfectly."
Grade: 40.4 overall, 1st in NFL among 4-3 defensive ends
"The change in scheme didn’t affect the man who has graded first in our 4-3 DE rankings twice in the past three years," Breitenbach posted. "He only played about two thirds of the snaps of the guys around him but amassed 67 combined pressures; remarkable."
Grade: 14.6 pass rush, 4th in NFL
"Cullen Jenkins proved the perfect DT in Jim Washburn’s Wide 9, pressuring the QB with regularity and generating numerous negative plays in the run game," Breitenbach wrote.
Grade: 9.6 pass coverage, T-6th in NFL
"This may well come as a surprise to many Eagles fans but Samuel had a great season ... a QB rating when thrown at of 52.4 speaks for itself," Breitenbach wrote.
Grade: 4 overall, T-2nd in NFL
"He made eleven special teams tackles without missing one," Breitenbach stated.
