Biography

A former rugby player, Nic Purcell signed with the Eagles as a rookie free agent during the 2013 offseason after participating in the team’s rookie mini-camp on a tryout basis. A native of Auckland, New Zealand, Purcell did not begin playing organized American football until his arrival in the United States in 2011, when he began his collegiate career at Golden West Community College as a defensive lineman. After being approached by the Golden West coaching staff, Purcell moved to the offensive line and started nine of ten games as a second-year player in 2012. After two seasons at Golden West, he was highly recruited by several FBS schools but was ruled ineligble by the NCAA due to an exhausted eligibility issue that stemmed from his days in New Zealand and was forced to begin his professional career earlier than expected..
